1000 Books Program

The “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” program is an evidence-based early literacy initiative that encourages families to read 1,000 books with their children before they begin kindergarten. This program immerses children in rich language and pre-reading skills essential for school success. The Griffin-Spalding County Library offers this program free of charge, ensuring equitable access for all families in the community. At the completion of the program, each child receives a Kindergarten-ready backpack filled with books and essential school supplies.Rotary Club volunteers assembled these backpacks, providing a hands-on opportunity to support early literacy and demonstrate Rotary’s commitment to education and community service.
